E-fury at the bottom of the Cellar steps. A professional player (and author) has asked for advice on setting his aims. From the reply…

i suggest that your aims do not involve others.
you may be able to rely upon yourself to honour an aim, but this is not something you can ask of others - unless you are working with them in a committed group, and can trust each other.
at that point, it's a group commitment.

an aim is best specific, defined simply, clearly, briefly.
it should be practically based: you can see to what degree you have hit the mark.
how would you assess whether you have become "a better person" for example?

you must also take into account the time period and the practicalities involved.
will these practicalities involve others? how will that affect your aim?

always fine to ask for help and direction: help is always available, although not always in the form we might expect.

hope this is useful.

Tom and Carl and Jack left ten minutes before T arrived c. 18.20 I…
